NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) night at the Kiwanis Holiday Lights (at Sibley Park in Mankato) is December 10. Anyone interested in volunteering that night from 4:30 – 9 pm can contact Diane Gerlach at 507-358-7804 or 507-931-6996, or you can register through the Kiwanis Holiday Lights website. (Volunteers can also go other nights and just write “NAMI” on the registration list.) Volunteers will be served supper around 6:30 pm. It has been lots of fun and last year food shelf items totaled over 150,000 pounds.
Volunteer activities include the following:
directing traffic as it goes through Sibley Park
taking food shelf items from cars and loading it into food shelf vehicles
handing out brochures
monitoring the skating rink (in the warming house)
lots of walking around and supervising the walkways
It can get cold, so volunteers need to dress warm. (Kiwanis has been very good about rotating volunteers in and out of the warm trailer.) Volunteers should sign in at the trailer when they arrive and list NAMI as the volunteer name.
