Southern Minnesota Nurses Events 2020

Out of an abundance of caution and concern re: COVID-19, the events below will be postponed until the fall. Please keep an eye on the website for updates as more information becomes available.

“What to do about Painful Flatfeet in Children and Adults”

Grace Ouyang, DPM is a podiatrist at New Ulm Medical Center. She is a Board Certified in American Board of Podiatric Medicine, Associate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and Member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Pediatrics. Tonight’s presentation will focus on the treatment of flatfeet in children and adults.

1.25 Contact Hours provided for nursing in accordance with the Minnesota Board of Nursing requirements.  Other disciplines may submit to their boards for (1.25) contact hours.

“A Newcomer’s Journey – How Care and Compassion can Positively Impact the Life of a Person with Refugee or Immigrant Status”

Join us for an evening with Julie Hawker and Habiba Rashid, where Julie will share how she has partnered with community champions to develop unique programs that are meeting the needs of the immigrant and refugee communities and Habiba will share about the work her organization is doing in the area. Learn about the statistics and the history of secondary resettlements in the greater Mankato area, along with the critical role of Community Health Workers and how they help the newcomers navigate the health system, in addition to housing, food access, and transportation. Julie will also share how cross-cultural friendships can greatly improve mental health for all involved by eliminating isolation in older adults.

The Minnesota Chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association is planning on offering the APNA Competency Based Training for Suicide Prevention on April 24 and the Chapter Conference on April 25. More information is in the attached brochure (below). We hope to see you there!

The American Psychiatric Nurses Association is accredited with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

2020 Pain Management Conference: Save the date!

Mark your calendars! Advanced Pain Management invites you to the annual Pain Management Conference, which will be held on March 24, 2020, at the Courtyard by Marriott in Mankato. Upcoming Events – Mark Your Calendars

JULY 8 – ANNUAL BOARD MEETING (members invited)

The annual meeting will be held at Jake’s Stadium Pizza (address) party room from 4:30 – 7:30 pm. We will review CEUs, events, etc. from September 2013 to May 2014, the treasurer’s report and potential plans for 2014–2015. This will be your opportunity to provide input for the direction that the organization takes in the upcoming year – topics for CEUs, community events to participate in, budget process….

You can come and go or stay for the entire time whatever your schedule allows. Pizza and pop will be provided. No cost for members, but we will need a count for Jake’s so RSVP by July 1 by emailing info@southernminnesotanurses.org.

As a supporter for this event, Southern Minnesota Nurses (SMN) is able to offer members a special rate to attend ($85 event cost – reduced cost for SMN members is $45).
