Camp Sweet Life opportunities

Camp Sweet Life Adventures, a summer camp for children with Type 1 diabetes, has a couple opportunities coming up that may be of interest to Southern Minnesota Nurses members:

  • On April 27, Dr. Rachel Singh (Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine, Mayo Clinic Health System) and Traverse Counseling and Consulting will be presenting information for families of children with Type 1 diabetes at the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota. The session runs from 2-4 PM. Student nurses from Minnesota State University, Mankato will also be on site for activities with the kids. See the flyer below for more information.
  • Camp Sweet Life Adventures is looking for staff for the summer camp, which runs from August 4-8. Training will be August 2-3. In addition to camp counselors, they also need medical staff, including nurses. See the flyer below for more information.

Undies for Everyone – Hurricane Harvey

Southern Minnesota Nurses is collecting new, unopened underwear to be sent to Texas for use by victims of Hurricane Harvey. Donations will be sent to an organization called Undies for Everyone for distribution. They anticipate that there will be a need and are planning for distribution through the end of the year. All sizes for men, women and children are needed.

Donations will be accepted at meetings and drop-off locations through November 2 at the SMN Nurses Expo. Drop-off locations are to be determined. For more information, contact Pat Shortall at 507-327-6907.

Be a Santa to a Senior

Be a Santa to a SeniorJoin Southern Minnesota Nurses in a give-to-your-community event by donating to the “Be a Santa to a Senior” project. Items needed include:

  • Hand/body lotion
  • Body wash
  • Reading glasses
  • Large word finds
  • Jigsaw puzzles (large pieces)
  • Gift baskets with coffee, tea cookies or candy
  • Prepaid phone card
  • Stamps and stationery
  • Magnifier
  • Playing cards
  • Cat/dog treats
  • Cologne/perfume
  • Wrapping paper and gift bags

Items can be dropped off at Home Instead Senior Care at 1059 Madison Avenue in Mankato from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM between November 25 and December 10. Donations can also be dropped off at the School of Nursing in 360 Wissink Hall on the MSU-Mankato campus. Please feel free to print and distribute the attached flyer!
